Wormwood Silver
Artemisia ludoviciana
Silver Wormwood, or White Sagebrush, is a distinctive perennial native to Ontario with soft, silvery-grey foliage that adds contrast and texture to the garden. Its narrow, aromatic leaves are the main ornamental feature, while small, pale yellowish flower clusters appear in summer and are relatively inconspicuous. It is also a larval host plant for the American Lady and Painted Lady butterflies.
White Sagebrush grows best in full sun with dry to average, well-drained soil. It is highly drought-tolerant and performs well in sandy, gravelly, rocky, and low-nutrient conditions. It spreads readily by underground rhizomes and can become aggressive in favourable conditions, so it is best suited to naturalized areas, prairie plantings, and larger dry gardens where its spreading habit is welcome.
Seasonal Availability: Typically May to August, depending on suppliers availability.
