Yarrow Common
Achillea millefolium
Common Yarrow is a hardy perennial native to Ontario with soft, fern-like foliage and flat-topped clusters of small white flowers that bloom through summer. The flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, while the fine-textured foliage adds interest even when the plant is not in bloom.
Common Yarrow grows best in full sun with dry to average, well-drained soil. It is highly tolerant of drought, heat, poor soil, and low fertility, making it an easy choice for tough garden conditions. It spreads by rhizomes and seed and can become aggressive, so it is best suited to naturalized areas, meadows, and larger plantings where some spread is welcome. If the flower stems are regularly sheared back, it can also be maintained as a low-growing groundcover.
Seasonal Availability: Typically May to August, depending on suppliers availability.
